The fastest way to answer your question is to give you a map! You can then put in your own address and the map will show you the fastest and most comfortable route to your cottage door - click here to access the map.
We provide the following as options for you to book:
We accept all major cards for payment. You will be asked for those details when you book in. Note that if you book with our online platforms, they have their own payment terms and conditions and so you may be asked to pay up front to secure the booking. In any event, we encourage you to ensure you understand the payment and the cancellation policies we have in place, before you book. We operate what we believe is a flexible set of terms and conditions, as we do know that plans may have to change and you need to be able to react to circumstances.
First thing to do is not stress! Our check-in time is from 3 pm to 10 pm but if you know you will not be able to make your check-in time as advised to us, just let us know by sms or you can also call on 0412 300 251 (Doug) or 0412 560 541 (Julie) and we will very happy to help and we will be obliged to you for letting us know.
So that we can complete our (COVID enhanced) cleaning duties in time, we stipulate a 10 am check out for all guests. If we do not have any bookings on the day you check out, however, we will let you know the night before and discuss if a late checkout would be agreeable/useful. Of course, this depends upon the bookings we get - so we trust you will understand if that option is not available.
While we supply your continental breakfast items, you will need to purchase your other supplies either before you arrive or by shopping in Mirboo North or Leongatha (the two closest places to shop and where you must travel through to get here).
If coming from Melbourne via the M1 Freeway, your last main-chain supermarket shopping opportunity is at Warragul where they have Coles, Woolworths and Aldi available. Really last-chance before you come over the hills to Mirboo North is the IGA at Trafalgar! 😊
If you are heading to us from Melbourne on the South Gippsland Highway, you will have your last chance to shop in Leongatha where they have Aldi, Woolworths and the local Michael's IGA.
You can also provision up in Mirboo North, but please realise the choice of foods available may be a tad more limited than other regional centres - or compared with your usual shops. Our local food stores are:
First thing to say is, depending upon the season, or our needs, we may not have any stock on the property at all. This can be due to a number of factors, including market conditions, age of our stock, availability of pasture and feed etc.
If there is stock on the farm, they will be either cattle and calves or sheep and lambs, or more likely, both. Well e also have two alpacas, Amity and Bluebell. They are friendly, in a stand-offish kind of way, so please do not attempt to hold them to you as they will become stressed and you may get a face full of bile. Spitting is one of their natural defence mechanisms and we can attest, it is not pleasant!
Despite our small size, we are a working farm and stock animals can be unpredictable in their reaction to strangers and particularly children, who do not represent the same size threat to them and therefore more likely to be a "win" for the animal as it seeks to establish its boundaries with you. Therefore, please DO NOT enter our paddocks - and supervise your children at all times. We cannot stress this enough.
Beyond that, we just ask you leave gates as you find them, supervise your children at all times (yup, it's important to us we say that again!) and know where they are. Our fences have barbed wire in them and despite our best efforts, they have protrusions of wire on them and so are dangerous to approach, unless you are aware of such things (and wearing your oldest clothes!).

The house area and our sheds are private and we ask you to respect that.
You can charge your electric vehicle at Strathmore Farm and B&B but you will need to allow plenty of time as we only have a 240V outlet near the car parking space. We can supply 15A (amps) of current so that will be an overnight charge. Cost will be $0.40 per kWh charged. Bring your own charger applies as well! If you are travelling on and planning the next stop, you can access a map of charging stations across Australia here.
Great question! We supply each child and adult booked in with a continental breakfast which consists of:
We are in a very poor reception area for regional free-to-air TV. And don't even think about Melbourne channels! 😀
Our reception is pretty variable during the day but more stable in the evening. However, mostly it is variable enough that we tend to say to guests "we don't get free-to-air TV here".
And we are not prepared to have you suffer the channels on the VAST satellite service the government offers to people like us in poor reception areas!
We do have both Apple TV and Android streaming devices and so you can get most television programs with us, using the various TV channel apps on the devices. One big advantage is you can binge-watch your favourite series!
AFL football fans can cast their favourite games to our TV using their Foxtel Go smartphone app and these instructions.
We obviously also have all the major streaming services such and Binge, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Stan, Apple aTV+, Disney+ on the devices, as well as SBS on Demand, ABC iView, Tenplay, 9Now and 7Plus - all you need is your account credentials to be able to log in and stream. Suffice to say, if there is an app for the services, you can download it with us!
PS: We don't supply complimentary access to these above services.
Phones: If you use your phone a lot in this area, you will probably already know that the only game in town is Telstra. We can get Telstra reception steady here at the farm. Optus less so and Vodafone is unavailable to us.
Internet: We have the B&B on a dedicated Skymesh NBN satellite service. This is advertised as 25/5 megabits per second download/upload and we have been pretty happy with the performance and availability of the service, especially for our business guests. We operate a fair use policy for our guests in terms of data use and reserve the right to restrict bandwidth if people abuse the service. Those wishing to use heavy videoconferencing should understand the latency for satellite services is much higher than for terrestrial services and so this may impact the responsiveness of your video conference. Typically, satellite services have latency numbers around 500-650 milliseconds, while even good old ADSL 2+ can give you 3-7 milliseconds. Starlink, the Elon Musk, low-orbit satellite service, sees typical numbers around 20-35 milliseconds in this area.
The B&B has free wifi available to guests and access is explained on arrival and at time of booking. Our information booklet has the wifi network details and password clearly printed on the front cover.
We are not bound by the Australian or Victorian Privacy Act - but we do operate using its principles for the treatment of your personal data. We DO NOT on-sell or divulge your personal data unless required to by law or unless it is for legitimate business needs and operations and we have your explicit or implicit permission.
