Lockdown Escape!
Now maybe you are reading this, with a mug of coffee in one hand and your other hand deftly heading a piece of warm toast, laden with butter and, maybe, some Fruits of Strathmore Roasted Apricot Jam, towards your mouth, as your mind drifts away from the reality of our current COVID lockdown to idle thoughts of travel once done, travel to be planned…
Well, even if this isn't you, you can still escape and share in the excitement of such stories! This is health food of another kind; soul-restoring anecdotes that will sustain you until we return to some semblance of global normality and village life.
This article is a wonderful account of a couple's travel through France in a rowing boat they made themselves. It's made of wood, which makes it warm and organic and authentic. They travel light, which makes it impressive for their stamina and it is a thoroughly enjoyable read.
And it's a story that deserves to be read with a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate and some toast!
If you like this kind of stuff, check out this publication, they have regular stories by owners and builders of small boats on their travels and feats. And if you own a wooden boat, think about staying with us on your way to Corner Inlet, surely one of the most interesting spots in southern Australia for pottering about?

About the authors
We retired to experience life in a country setting around 7 years ago. We make preserves of all kinds and we run a B&B on our 25 acre farm in the Strzelecki Ranges in South Gippsland. We have backgrounds in technology and non-profit management. We are also renovating our 121 year-old Federation-era home. Slowly. We have a small number of cows (Belted Galloways) and sheep (White Dorpers) and host a varied menagerie of local wildlife in the trees and hollows around our property.
